Since 2021, we have defined a common foundation for our responsible offering and are rolling it out across all our brands with the help of our teams of experts.
With the Alliance du Commerce and Deloitte Sustainable Development, all our product teams are trained in eco-design. They receive support to better understand the challenges of transformation in our industry and are trained in the new tools of their changing professions.
“The aim of eco-design is to implement a responsible offering that takes into account all environmental, social, and safety factors throughout its value chain and meets a set of criteria—materials, transport, etc.—to offer our customers products that are increasingly environmentally friendly.”
— Isabelle Desfontaines, Director of Sustainable Development
To comply with environmental labeling regulations (equivalent to the Nutri-Score for textiles), we decided to develop our own measurement tool, “Butterfly.” The goal? To control the environmental data of our products (textiles and footwear) and simplify data collection throughout the value chain (suppliers, purchasing department, and customers) through a single database.
This software allows our teams to:
Butterfly enables us to measure our environmental impact throughout the entire product life cycle, from the origin of the material to the end of its life, in order to achieve our goal of reducing GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions.
The European Union recently introduced a new methodology for the publication of corporate environmental, social, and governance data, called the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
This directive requires European companies to disclose non-financial information on their sustainability performance, in accordance with standardized norms to facilitate comparisons between companies.
Although the directive is not due to come into force until 2028, the Eram Group has decided to start preparing now. Initiatives have been launched to train the relevant departments within the Group and its various brands. To date, more than 70 employees have taken part in training sessions and collaborative workshops on the impact of our activities.
Since 2015, the Group has reduced its energy consumption by 49% across its entire network of stores and buildings (headquarters, logistics, factory, etc.).
Stores, which account for more than 70% of overall energy consumption, have been the focus of particular attention through significant investments and extensive awareness-raising among teams. Thanks to a series of actions carried out in stores, at headquarters, in warehouses, and in factories (switching to LED lighting in stores and logistics sites, less energy-intensive store concepts, energy renovation work at headquarters, etc.), the strength of the collective has once again proven itself.
We have signed off the creation of the company Mauges BioGNV, in partnership with carrier companies, Jolival and Pohu, two farming collectives and the Mauges Energie local authority, to launch the first Biogas station in the Mauges region.
Biogas is a virtuous alternative fuel that emits 82% less CO₂ compared to conventional fuels, 95% fewer fine particles, and 50% less noise pollution for the vehicles that use it. It is produced through the transformation of agricultural waste naturally generated by local farming in the Mauges. Since the end of April 2022, it has been used by the transporter Jolival and now supplies 26 Gémo stores in Western France entirely (representing 80% of deliveries in the region).
Through this commitment, our goal is to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and to take control of our value chain.
Since 2020, Oksigen, a subsidiary of the Eram Group, has been supporting us. A consulting firm that helps companies reduce their environmental footprint and boost their energy transition, its services are based on three pillars:
